summer stream of consciousness

It's summer in my world. No school, weekend visitors, barbecues. Yes, it's here. The reasons I'm loving it ...

barbecues and pool parties at liz's in westchester. the freedom to draw. the freedom to paint. the freedom to plan events. time to read indie fashion mags before bed. time to get inspired. time to create long exposure city shots from friends' roofs. surprise/impromptu trips to miami for work - perfect timing. time to see my friends and dance and catch up on manhattan rooftops. good friends' visits. brunch outside. people watching. walking everywhere around the city. agua de coco con pulpa. fro-yo. museums. botanical gardens. wearing sandals, maxidresses, ponytails, bright lipstick. creative collaboration. spending days off in the bookstore. time for literature. time for movies. possibilities.

My first year of design school has come to a close, and not much has changed. You see, I have a seemingly compulsive habit of coloring in as many calendar days as humanly possible.

A brief sampling of the docket:
- Work: a midweek trip to Fort Lauderdale, FL next week to meet with a client who makes colorful, funktastic scrubs.
- Charity event planning and paraphernalia designing
- My own personal website(s)
- Photoshoot styling

I'm a naturally busy creature - idleness is a most detested state I cannot deal with or obviously even fathom at this time, so this kind of ... sort of works for me.

Also, I saw a guy in my subway station today that SO cracked me up due to pure absurdity ... he was wearing these neon 80s shorts, wearing a shirt that sported "Anything BUTT here" with a photo of a throng of thong-clad females. He was also singing to himself - loudly and badly. But, alas, these are the joys of my New York City life, and I don't know what I'd do without them.

this has probably been one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a while. I realize I've posted Corinne Bailey Rae quite a few times -- haha that is because if I had one wish, it would be to write and perform songs like she does. incredible.

crunchy crunchy

FIT crunch time has hit me like a humungous stack of bricks. With freelancing and class and all, I'm going to have to pass on the two essential life pieces I've had to mostly pass on all semester: my social life and sleep. I have a ton of great things to post, but have to get them together. Post-school to-do list (I guess I don't really believe in "breaks" :) ). Until then, I am making a giganto proclamation.

LET'S BRING BACK THE MIXTAPE!!!!!!

I am proud to say I am no longer a gradient mesh virgin. I avoided this assignment for quite a long time, but I feel this part of it turned out fairly well. This is the mirror I use on my armoire rendered in Illustrator. The assignment is to essentially render a shiny object from three vantage points.
