My roommate and I hosted a big brunch at our apartment in Park Slope this past Sunday. Paper crane folding ensued ... details (email from a friend) below.
Hello friends,As many of you know, most of my family members live in Japan. Many of them experienced the earthquakes (there has been non-stop earthquakes - larger the 6.0 - since Friday) but luckily they are all ok.There is a Japanese tradition called Senbazuru or 1,000 origami/paper cranes. A crane in Japan is a very holy creature and if I remember the legend correctly, Japanese people believe that folding a thousand paper cranes will bring happiness, prosperity and recovery from illness.I would like to create a senbazuru and send to my family in Japan to list their spirits up. If any of you are interested in learning how to fold origami cranes AND want to help me make 1,000 cranes, just let me know. For those of you in NYC, maybe we can get together this weekend and fold some paper cranes. Those living outside of NYC, I can send you folding directions and you can just mail me the crane or multiple cranes!
