Done

I've been in a bit of transition the past few months ... finishing school, applying for, getting an offer for, and starting a summer internship, gearing up for real life again post-educational redo. And so ends the PollyMimi phase.

I've grown so much over these past two years - artistically, professionally, intellectually, personally. I can thank many people for that, people I met along the way, professors, professionals, my classmates. Hours and hours of inspiration hunting, practice designing, taking photographs, and reading have also contributed. I'm in a very happy place right now - I'm interning at an award winning web design and development agency called Blenderbox and I'm really loving it. I can design all day and not get sick of it. It's a wonderful place to work, and my school withdrawal symptoms aren't so bad since I'm learning so much on the job.

Artistically, I want to start a new blog, because I think my style has really refined itself and evolved over these past few years, and PollyMimi is more of an exploration than a consistent expressionistic series.

But it's been real, and I hope my work evolves even more as I gain more experience in the design world. Sayonara, PollyMimi :)

barcelona

Got back from Barcelona, but didn't get around to the post-processing grind until this weekend. These are some artsy black & whites I worked out ... here is a link to the full album. I hope I captured the beauty that was that city adequately.

cranes for japan

My roommate and I hosted a big brunch at our apartment in Park Slope this past Sunday. Paper crane folding ensued ... details (email from a friend) below.
Hello friends,

As many of you know, most of my family members live in Japan. Many of them experienced the earthquakes (there has been non-stop earthquakes - larger the 6.0 - since Friday) but luckily they are all ok.

There is a Japanese tradition called Senbazuru or 1,000 origami/paper cranes. A crane in Japan is a very holy creature and if I remember the legend correctly, Japanese people believe that folding a thousand paper cranes will bring happiness, prosperity and recovery from illness.

I would like to create a senbazuru and send to my family in Japan to list their spirits up. If any of you are interested in learning how to fold origami cranes AND want to help me make 1,000 cranes, just let me know.

For those of you in NYC, maybe we can get together this weekend and fold some paper cranes. Those living outside of NYC, I can send you folding directions and you can just mail me the crane or multiple cranes!

best recommendation in a long time :) ... i love bonfires

flashback to vintage ballerina

Took a shoddy photo of this moodboard I created last year to kick off a still life styling project. Ran into my old photostyling professor today, and she requested it, so I'm donating it to the moodboard archive :) After not looking at it for awhile, I actually quite like it .... collaging is quite fun :)

addicted to ffffound.com

Ah, inspiration hunts. One of my top favorite pastimes. The other snow day, my creative director was out, so one of the designers here suggested I go through some books and fonts for inspiration and to get a feel for how interiors are put together. I spent the day galavanting through fields of beautifully worded novels, poems, incredible designs and art, and, naturally, got inspired. It's the best form of energy, really. I was going through the Communication Arts illustration annual and was reading about one designer named Rachel Matts who referenced http://ffffound.com as one of her top sources for inspiration. Curiously, I ventured to browse the site and am now utterly addicted. Here are some images I found today that I absolutely love love loved.
